More about the test
I'm back on Substack with reflections on today's very interesting reveal of what appear to have been previously classified U.S. intelligence conclusions about alleged Chinese nuclear-testing activity at Lop Nur panda.substack.com/p/china-us-i...

June 22nd 2020. Wild that China tested quietly.
The revelation that USG believes China conducted a yield-producing test - and on a specific date - is the big 👀.

Also notable is statement U.S. can upload non-deployed warheads "if directed by the President." Meaning no direction has yet been given.

Escalation is best defined as the transgression of thresholds as *viewed by your adversary*, so it’s prima facie absurd to take military action that crosses clearly established thresholds and then describe your step as “non-escalatory,” FWIW.
Focus on controlling escalation stated up front: “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution.”
