Once again, a thread for the Brexit ignorant

1/ All countries start with their own market standards, regulated & customs territory. If an outsider wants to sell on it you must prove you meet its standards & pay a tariff at its border

Agree that the UK should be looking to rejoin the Single Market if not the EU asap

agree 100%

I think the penny is dropping, even with staunch unionists like Jim that while the Windsor Framework does reduce the damage caused by Brexit (for goods)....it is also not a long term fix for brexit for NI.

He blames the WF, of course, not brexit.

you're right and as osborne points out, british unionists in NI managed to scupper theresa mays' plan, which largely avoided a border and install boris johnson, which guaranteed a sea border!

in Dublin, it's still referred to as "the Milk, No Sugar days of brexit".

Aside from the substantive content of this article, I can't believe the inference I've detected of the report being written as if Labour was instrumental in the UK being disadvantaged by outside the EU, while it (Telegraph) was one of cheerleaders.

As tweeted so many times before, UK now an outsider to EU & every other country in the world...as more turn inwards & more protective ..
EU etc can afford to do without UK goods; but UK cannot even afford to reciprocate its TCA border, never mind start any trade wars.

Of Course...
These Unionists seem to overlook the NIP/WF would not be a thing but for Brexit (the choice to resurrect regulatory & customs "take back control" divisive borders, that needed to go somewhere)
vivamjm.bsky.social
Round & round in circles. If wanting own legally regulated & customs territory to another then you have hugely economic (& political in Ireland) costly regulatory & customs borders that need to be physically controlled. All agreed couldn't resurrect in Ireland. UK proposed what now have. Live with it
vivamjm.bsky.social
When he talks(they talk) about the "negative economic impact" of the Irish Sea Border he is(they are) talking about the UK-EU border that has been swung back to between GB & NI to avoid it being resurrected in Ireland.
Funny how they never speak of the resulting Brexit GB-EU border in the same terms
