If you look at the top 10 cards that are running it, 9 of them are BW commanders, with one three colour commander in there.
And each of these are running it ten, twenty, up to like, 80 times as often.

You can see it in cards like Dramatic Finale. The *overall* play rate is 0.34 but then when you look specifically at Orzhov decks, it rockets up.

I do think it skips over importsnt factors, like how a card like Boros Reckoner benefits mono and Boros decks more than say, a Jund deck due to pips
That is: Technically jund *does* get access to it, but in that deck it costs RRR, which is a huge strain on the mana base

Oh sure, and look i definitely want to put Afterlife Insurance into my Ayara deck, but thats not the *entirety* of the thing.
I mean I could swap to Elas Il Kor and basically not change that deck much at all.
But...would I?

Im a big fan of fuckin around with commanders rules to see where people go.
Like, who would y'all build if every monocolour legend got to choose a background? (They lose partner if they had it)

Yeah prior to 2010 the colour identity was defined by the casting cost only, and you couldnt generate any coloured mana outside of that.
So in 2009, Tatsunari would have been mono black, with an ability you could never activate.

I would personally argue that the core of commanders identity is playing a commander you resonate with, and theming a deck around that identity, and im not 100% convinced the best way to do that is to push people to play Elas Il Kor rather than Ayara just because they love Afterlife Insurance.
