I feel like people are talking past each other on this due to terminology.
The people arguing for designer intent arent saying that all designer intent is infallible: theyre saying thst this *specific* designer intent is good for the game, and its a tool we want to support, not diminish.

My entire point is that *intent* is being used as an argument in favor, which I think is nonsense and I'm using counterexamples of intent.

Technically, basic lands dont have rules text, they have reminder text.
like how extort works.
This was easily solved by just saying "yeah you cant put those "off colour" basics in your deck", despite the rules of magic saying they should be allowed in every deck, regardless of colour ID.

the _justifications_ are the problem. in a linear sense, yes, you can toggle certain switches on and off, but if a major justification for hybrid is 'developer intent' then you are ceding the floor to phyrexian mana

I would personally argue that the core of commanders identity is playing a commander you resonate with, and theming a deck around that identity, and im not 100% convinced the best way to do that is to push people to play Elas Il Kor rather than Ayara just because they love Afterlife Insurance.
