I gotta hand it to whatever advertising firm Informa hired to make these, there really is something almost poetic about GDC's advertising being "an AI-looking depiction of an industry staple being destroyed with no clear elaboration of what comes after." Masterclass in unintentionally nailing it.

That and it makes the moments when the Pikmin series does have weird, supernatural elements (Like Waterwraith/Plasmwraith) have less impact.

They can exist alongside humans I don't care, just them being invisible to people like they're magic just feels incongruent with the series' tone to me.

I will say about "Close to You" though, I'm not sure how to feel about the subtle ramp-up of Pikmin as fae creatures thing. It's not super overpowering yet but I've always preferred the Pikmin series being on the more natural and down-to-earth side.

It gets even weirder when you consider Hey Pikmin (3DS spinoff) because to my understanding, Olimar crash lands on a different planet, but said planet somehow still has Pikmin and Pikmin creatures on it.

The first three Pikmin games have a logical throughline, but Pikmin 4 is about impossible to cleanly slot into the first trilogy. At best, it's a sequel to Pikmin 1 where the bad ending is canon, but even then, it's not a 100% clean fit.

Sure but that the very least what's happening in the actual story of Splatoon is more or less consistent. But even then it wouldn't surprise me if one day a game comes out and it's the center of controversy because it's a "reboot" the same as what happened with Pikmin 4 lol.
