i just saw someone kill one of them (or one of the normal antelope mobs) and it made me really upset so additionally: if one attempts or even "succeeds" in killing one of the beasts, they will be haunted by the sound of soft footsteps in the snow right behind them for the rest of their lives.
a ghost herd that appears to travelers who are lost. they evoke an intense calm in witnesses that render them unable to do much else but stand still and watch the animals walk aimlessly. this either allows time for the traveler to be found, regain their direction, or have company on an icy deathbed.
