I completely forgot about Scalebound despite there being a point in my life where every year I would tell myself “Wow, once Scalebound comes out I’ll buy an Xbox One.”

And then Microsoft did it again with the Perfect Dark reboot that made me say “Wow, once Perfect Dark comes out I’ll buy an Xbox X”

Sonic Xtreme the game: a novelty people would play with about as much sincerity on average as 3D Blast

Sonic Xtreme the idea: decades worth of community projects to document the game and everything around it, as well as develop totally new games based on its concept

It’s almost worse that people buy several because they cost like 200 bucks, how do people have this much money to burn?

It’s really annoying that N64 steel sticks sell out instantly while people are seemingly hoard them and buying multiples

Please I actually play my N64 a lot, and I just want a single good controller you don’t need five of them

I was gonna say something but realized all the weight was lost when I started with “20 years ago”

I was just gonna say during 360 era that normie gamers played halo/gears and actual exclusives even shit like crackdown, not just multiplat sports games and cod

Forgot exclusives don’t exist now lol

It feels like they do these nostalgia grabs often enough that they acknowledge the older fans, but just refuse to actually make a game

i’d be shocked if anybody under the age of like 25 could identify as a “playstation fan” because they just don’t do anything outside of nostalgia grabs lol

Actually crazy that Sony learned nothing from when Capcom fumbled trying to do that pivot in the late 00s

playstation is such a weird brand, how do they have such a strong identity, with iconic exclusives and large cultural presence

yet they just haven’t done anything for a decade, it kinda makes me wonder if they’ll get to a point like xbox where they get zero new fans and only have aging og/360 fans

Same, I feel like there’s just way too much stuff I like now, and for so many totally different reasons. I don’t wanna compare apples and oranges to elevate something above an unrelated other.

That’s an interesting tangent, because when you do see cooler collection stuff now, it’s a lot of fan-made works.

The official stuff is what’s boring when it’s just purchased online, but when you see fan-works it’s like “oh damn you’re really into that scene, huh” “oh you really like that artist”

I guess “cool” isn’t really the right word, because was anybody ever really impressed by things others purchase? Maybe “interesting” would be better word.

Because there used to be a lot of stories related to certain items or more reasons why they like X. It feels a bit more superficial now.

it’s not like this is anything new, this was already a point of contention like 15 years ago with people saying that video game full sets were lame. When instead of actually needing to hunt for games over a long period of time, it was just about having the money to rapidly buy everything online

I play my Wii U often but rarely use it as a remote, mostly just because of the lack of a general “menu” button

so my saturn is gonna take another 50 bucks to replace the PSU and see if it hopefully still works

that’s immediately 1/4th the price of an ss1 and ignoring the cost of the saturn itself + fenrir + upscaler
