As Trump’s economic instability continues and Governor Scott refuses to challenge the policies driving it, the stakes for Vermont’s future could not be clearer. From the cost of groceries and heating fuel to the ability of employers to hire and grow, Vermonters are paying the price.

While the headline unemployment rate hasn’t changed, the number of Vermonters actually participating in the economy has. Vermonters aren’t finding opportunity — they’re dropping out of the labor force altogether.

VT now has nearly 5,500 fewer people working than at the start of 2025. The state’s labor force is smaller today than when Donald Trump and Phil Scott first took office in 2017. The last time VT saw a sustained, months-long contraction was ahead of the the Great Recession.

With Vermont among the hardest-hit states in the housing crisis, this legislation takes on corporate greed and puts power back in the hands of tenants and local communities.

The bill strengthens antitrust enforcement, helps keep rent competition fair, and takes aim at predatory practices making housing increasingly affordable.

Rep. Balint has introduced the End Rent Fixing Act, which outlaws the use of coordinated pricing algorithms that landlords use to collude and overcharge tenants.

The Vermont Democratic Party urges the Trump administration to halt this escalation and to comply with the constitutional process that protects both our democracy and our service members.

Any move to initiate military action without congressional authorization is reckless and unconstitutional. Venezuela has not attacked the United States, and no president has the authority to unilaterally launch a war.

At the same time, we have serious concerns about President Trump’s decision to mobilize the Vermont Air National Guard as part of what appears to be a dangerous and escalating push toward military conflict with Venezuela.

This family is entitled to due process under the U.S. Constitution.

This ongoing erosion of civil liberties is not normal, it is not acceptable, and it cannot go unanswered. Vermonters are united in demanding transparency and accountability.
