GOG's version comes with the Basic version of the Unofficial Patch included, so you can just download and go.

The Plus version of the patch still requires the installer, though.

Yep, because of Source, the earliest date it could contractually be released was the same day as Half-Life 2. So they both came out the same day.

Entrely your choice! Basic is just bugfixes (and widescreen support) but otherwise the same game you'd see when it was released in 2004.

Plus adds restored content (levels, NPCs, quests, music, objects, and more), balance and quality-of-life tweaks.

The Unofficial Patch is an easy installer, not a lot to it.

GOG's version of Bloodlines comes with the Unofficial Patch included so you don't even need to worry about that much.
