just finished brandon sanderson’s Tress of the Emerald Sea. I eventually got used to the princess-bride style prose and the story held my attention well enough. so i count it as a win

when i was a kid, my (train obsessed) granddaddy had a sign hanging above the toilet in his bathroom that said something like “kindly refrain from flushing while the train is in the station” and when i was in my mid-30’s i finally had my wife explain it to me.
