Yeah, the NHL absolutely COULD advertise "Puck drop: 7:08pm" - it's established before the game. They just . . . don't.

All I can think of is that that's probably when TV comes online? So TV would rather have a 10pm broadcast window start, than have to come online at 10:07pm.

I can assure you that everything is timed down to the SECOND. The exact puck drop time is booked with the league in advance and if you miss that by more than a couple of seconds, fines are involved.

Now WHY the NHL advertises a 10pm start for a 10:21:30 puck drop is another question entirely.
