Congress has the power, with a majority vote and the President's signature, to increase the size of the Court to 27 Supremes, and to appoint minority women DEI activists to all the new seats.

That would be a reasonable starting point: reduce the Illegitimate Six to a risible afterthought.

If MAGA succeeds at its apparent goal of making 2026-34 into a recap of 1930-38, and R Congressional losses are proportional in the two periods, there will be 67-69 D Senators in January of 2029.

Whether all of them would vote to convict Supremes of impeachment seems implausible.

By 2031, maybe.

Probably there would be a lot of non-optimal one-size-sort-of-fits-all designs?

Not that I'm down on inclusivity, but it is not the only value there is.

To be Scrupulously Fair, the FBI has never been deterred from opening investigations on ordinary citizens in violation of that

I'd endorse getting together for beer and darts, or a DND campaign, or sitting around drinking gongfu tea
The actual existing Democratic club meetings where I'm at are tedious and pointless.

Hell, all of the languages of Europe have Abrahamic monotheism's cosmology baked into their world models. There's no escaping it.

I'm no subscriber to the strong forms of Sapir-Whorff, but it's got to have some effects.

Hey, I agreed it was a good rant.

Good rants are all we've got for the time being.

Like, who ordered Jeffries to take impeachment off the table? If in fact that's what he meant.

Not even talking into account how all institutions eventually betray their missions in service of protecting their budgets and headcounts

No religion is immune to this, because when position in the religious hierarchy becomes a source of prestige in the wider society, all kinds of people with no commitment to the tenets of the faith are attracted to strive for those positions.

Too many people don't open the app with the attitude "I don't have to engage with EVERYTHING that sets me off"

I have this fight with my very politically-active sister, who thinks that everybody can read between the lines to see what's happening without the journalists or D politicians needing to be explicit.

Most people aren't in the 98th %-ile of verbal skills standardized test scores.

I see that you have not been following Krugman's thinking about the "vibecession" and the sources of economic stress that are not captured by the employment and inflation stats.

No mass layoffs yet, but also no hiring. Housing costs that aren't captured in CPI. To name two biggies.

Isn't he the one who decided he wouldn't, after Holsey declined and got pushed out over it?

Probably thinking "If I don't, somebody will."

But yeah, when you join the Duty, Honor, Country organizations, you're supposed to have pre-decided that you're up for doing the honorable thing.

People expecting politics post-2025 to be in the same vein as politics 1993-2024.

They're mistaken about that, but which way things will break? Not yet clear.
December 2, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Hey, at least they're no better at courting military support for authoritarian consolidation than they are at managing the economy or conducting foreign policy

My employer required me to do that years ago
I was under the impression that pretty much everybody with a FL driver's license now has Real ID

That's assuming the can opener, that the next two elections will happen and will count.

The politics of 2026 and beyond is not going to conform to the patterns of recent decades.

Overturning that particular law would be a huge step, but the US has never had such widely-despised war criminals.
