"I'd say it's amazing work that you do, Leo! And I bet Levi agrees."
{Yes. Yes, it does. It keeps me busy, and i love doing it. Its the least i can do for the caregiver of this city.}

《He really looked up to levi as an entity.》
"Still, doing that is also very impressive! It takes a lot of carefully planned magic."

"Still, doing that is also very impressive! It takes a lot of carefully planned magic."
{Aw shucks. I had to do several layers of enhancing magic for it to work right. But trial and error prevailed.}

《He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.》
That only amazed him more.

"So you can open the window and the water still won't come in?! Your rune magic is amazing!"

That only amazed him more.

"So you can open the window and the water still won't come in?! Your rune magic is amazing!"
{Protection and keeping the water out. I had to put four by the window itself yo keep water from coming in when it was in either state. Closed or open.

The ceiling is mostly engraved with barrier protection runes. Or sanctum tunes as i call them.}

《The boy said, taking a seat.》
"It's amazing. And it must have taken a lot of work to put the runes up there. I can't tell from here. Are they more protection runes or keeping water out of the room?"

Wade had noticed. And it made him feel just as relaxed and comfortable. Maybe more so that he could geek out with someone.

{Yes. A lot of thought went into the palace. How do you like the room?}

《Leo asked with a gentle smile. Just like levi. This boy inherited their kind soul》
Wade slowly looked around. The more he saw, the more it felt like paradise.

"...Inside is limestone, not sandstone. A great conductor of magic to the point some believe it's alive from the dead sea life that forms it while sandstone is a grounder. A lot thought went into all this."

《Beyond the doors lay a massive room. At least 50 squared feet. The walls are intrecately carved out of marble and limestone. Runes on top of them barely visable. But still radiating power. A small window to the side with half closed curtains.》

{This is the vacant room. As you can see. Quite the ++
Wade gave a soft smile.

"I imagine. That can't be comfortable for long."

Then he paused again, eyes lighting up. Magic. The rooms were all magically sealed? It made sure for a palace to have high security measures.

He couldn't help a bright smile, revealed he'd made something she liked.

"There's plenty more. And I can also make more if it's not enough."
"Thank you."

She gently takes the spoon before eating a spoonful of it. . .and then she starts obliterating said soup, someone was REALLY hungry, and based on how fast she finished, she was gonna need more-
"Right. Oh. Do you need a spoon. Hang on."

Wade opened a small box by the shelf of alchemy jars, handing it to her. This was more normal, a simple metal one. Probably a relief since unlike bowls, plastic spoons tend to not be designed to be reused.

《Leo nodded and led the way. Taking of the rebreather for a moment with a deep inhale.》

{Better.}

《He kept walking to the empty room and opened it with some chanting.》

{Askamar viatna trunar.}

《The door opened as he allowed the other to enter first.》
"It really is, honestly. I...never thought I'd see such a thing. My people were already scattered when I was born... Mer cities were myths..."

Wade perked up again, mind back in the present. An empty room. He thought of Levi's offer. The thought it might be his future room...

"Sounds great!"

{It is quite something to behold, no? Certainly was when i was growing up. Still am.}

《The boy chuckled and went upstairs beckoning the other to follow.》

{Ill show you an empty room so you can see the sort of structure we have.}
"Exactly... It's the main reason I live in a cave. It's important for my alchemy."

Wade couldn't help a soft laugh.

"I never thought I'd hear of an underwater mage tower. It really is a city..."

"Anyways, I should probably eat before I become any more pissed. I have a feeling this form makes me angry when I'm hungry."

The Finhead did look rather hungry, even though she'd fall under the one category of "Thick Thighs Save Lives" Or something of the like.
"Oh! Yes. A lot of my jars are recycled glass, actually. Working with glass is...the closest I can do to anything really artistic."

Wade shook his head.

"Trust me...I understand."

"Like they'll even throw away glass bottles and thing that are rather useful when reused. So distasteful if you ask me!"

She sighs, beginning to cool off, she got a bit cranky when she was hungry.

"Sorry I got so heated, it just drives me up a wall what humans will throw away."
"Exactly. I travel the shores sometimes disguised as one sometimes just to clean up the mess some of them make... Try to find use for as much as possible. Even I struggle with stuff they make from this plastic, though."

"Sometimes sirens just sing when someone that would love their song is nearby..."

Wade felt a chill at the mention of sea foam.

"Into sea foam...it did hold the spell of a sea witch, then... You took a siren potion?"

He was trying to understand Blue's story, making sure he heard right.
"I'm fairly sure that no siren would've been interested in me when i was human...

I was ugly as hell~♪"

He mused in hilarious realism... sure, it was self deprecating, but realistic.

"Succubi, the kind of demon i became thru ritual magic in hell, can become sirens if they earn it. Same voice."

+
Wade was about to ask how she sang but quickly remembered. The necklace.

"Sorry. You...the way you worded it I kind of thought the siren killed you. They're kind of known for that even if it's accidentally for some."

He had no plans to pry into how Blue ended up there.

"Why would i be?, one of yours didn't kill me... humans killed me, when i was human... because i opposed the greed of a very, very influential and powerful man."

Which didn't make sense of why he ended up in hell.

"This necklace was given to me by one of you turned to stone... she was a siren."
Well...that was another questioned answered. Death by siren...

"And you...were not scared of me when you saw me? Not hostile?"

Blue acted like he held grudges, after all. It felt bittersweet...he was always worried about being feared and here was someone that should be but wasn't.

"Better to use it since the humans wasted it. Goddesses above they can be such animals sometimes, littering and killing the environment."

She rants, clearly not fond of Human's frequent waste of resources, which was selfish to other species. Clearly, she had a bone to pick with them about it.

"Like I said: stories. People do like to twist them..."
"She was a good soul though..."
"Stories of our power like the legends of that sea witch. Her stories are in a lot of worlds but you clearly know of that."

Blue didn't quite answer... not in words... but in an explanation beyond the shadow of any doubt as he let his helmet fall into the sands...

His eyes gazed deep into the ocean... and an answer came in words.

"It called out to me... in the world where i'm from."

He offered without looking.

Wade couldn't help but keep his eyes on the necklace once he spotted it. He heard stories of such things...and the aura coming from it. As much as he didn't want it to, it unnerved him.

"...Where did you get that?"

"Don't know why they do..."
"People fear us... I want to be better."

Considering his teeth, it didn't bother him as he put some soup in the bowl.

"If I'd left it there, it would have leeched into the water... I'm not sure what else to do when I find it so I figure...use it?"
"I figured that some of this stuff came from land. It baffles me why humans still use plastic stuff, Ceramic is SO much nicer."

Dorothy says, finally not sopping wet, she walks over with a smile on her face, which also had a bit of a carnivorous look on it. .
Wade smiled, having been about to grab for one. Surprisingly, it looked like a normal plastic bowl that humans would use.

"You could say I salvaged it from the beach... I made sure they were sanitary before using them so there's no worries there."

"Yea, you Octos are very rare."
"Rare in his world, too, huh?"

"...Where did you get that?"
Six eyes gazed back into Wade... the upper and lower sets resembled eyebrows and eyebags, but the center ones...

Those eyes at the center were terribly similar to those of the sea wizard... but instead of yellow there was white... and instead of black, there was blue.

His heavy steps moved...

+
Wade followed easily in the water, actually having to go slow to not get ahead of Blue. He stopped at the shore. He could be out of the water like this but it would feel heavy with how huge he was.

Now he looked believably like a demon.

"And now I have a face to you."
December 31, 2025 at 2:39 AM
"Rare in his world, too, huh?"
"He probably will be as nervous as you are."
"A reason I'm nervous..."
December 31, 2025 at 2:29 AM
"A reason I'm nervous..."
"One who has the golden contracts.... like the Sea Witch herself."
"I know you said there's magic. A house of people like us. And...I'm eager and nervous at possibly meeting another male octomer..."
December 31, 2025 at 2:23 AM

She steps out from the puddle, brushing her outfit off a little as the leftover water drips from her curves and clothes to the floor like a waterfall, she waits for herself to stop dripping before going over to the dryer areas

"So, what all did you put in that soup? It smells heavenly."
The 'puddles' were rather deep. Deep enough for Wade to submerge in to sleep so it would easily cover her scales as well.

"That was the only thing that had me worried...if you might dry up. Maybe I can see if there's a soft spot in the ground there to make a pond..."
December 31, 2025 at 2:23 AM
"I know you said there's magic. A house of people like us. And...I'm eager and nervous at possibly meeting another male octomer..."
"You'd probably love the school.."
"If I ever get the nerve to go through that portal with you, I promise not to tell."

"And now I have a face to you."
Heavy steps of machine led the insect out towards the shallows and then towards an island's shore.

Once the machine stood on the sand came a strange glow irradiating from it expanding and forcing the water out... dry in seconds.

Then ensued the steam as the cuirass opened. Only for a... well...

+
"They didn't...sadly innocent people also paid..."

At least Wade knew there was nothing he could have done but flee. And now he had something to live for again. He gave a nod, ready to follow.
