Public Works and Utilities, the sixth Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan album will be released on Friday 10 October via @castlesinspace.bsky.social.
A mockup of how the new Warrington-Runcorn record might look. It has a red a black cover with the words Public Works and Utilities. The record is also red and black. The front cover of Public Works and Utilities depicts a 1970s library in stylised red and black.

The three local villages named Claughton all pronounced differently.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Are you telling me the man in your screenshot ISN'T dead?

We just finished S3 of Blue Lights. A blistering return to form, nerve shreddingly tense and beautifully heartfelt.

First act from 8pm, me from 9pm. All done and dusted by 10.30pm.

All these big tours - sound systems have totally changed for the smaller. Instead of having 300 lights, you need 100 and a giant, fold flat LED screen. This must have cut transportation, crew costs, set up time, surely?

I don’t mean to be That Old Man, but I saw Floyd on their 94 tour, for a stage show that featured a dozen people on stage, hundreds of lights, lasers, pyros etc. I think it cost £34 including the bus travel from Wigan. How have concert prices escalated way beyond inflation? What new costs are there?

I’m only surprised it doesn’t also say “check my hard drives”

💿 First time listening to Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan.

Started with "Your Community Hub".

My initial interpretation: Super immersive dystopian synths with subtle nods to FSOL.

Thanks for the music, @warringtonruncorn.com. It's great!

No, it's not. It's all a lie. The blunt truth is across the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

I'm onto the second half of the tour now, 7 dates remaining from Bonnie Scotland to the Big Smoke. Quite a few have sold out, but there are still tickets available for Cambridge tomorrow, and Glasgow and Edinburgh next week.

Why can’t the government be as simple, honest and plain speaking as this?

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I’m sure it’s universal, but I think this is one of the more definitively British Pterry quotes. The British class system and private school system smashes doubt, or the possibility of other opinions out of the aristocracy. You see its worst in Lord de Worde and its best in Sybil Ramikin.

If the political compass was back with Tories’ hugging a hoodie, Jenrick would be giving out the smarmiest, fluffiest sentiments.

This doesn’t excuse his earliest comments. It makes them worse. He has no morality or principles. He is nothing but ambition.

I know Handsworth well. I love it. The Soho Road is one of the most vibrant streets in the world. I was attached to the library there for a writing project last year and I wrote a whole chunk about it in my book Hope And Glory. Read it if you get a chance

JUST IN! 'Public Works and Utilities' by Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan

The analog synthesist returns with his sixth full-length work, a concept album exploring the decline of public service and industry in the 1980s and beyond.
