The problem with cutting benefits is that most of that money goes back into the economy, so £5bn 'saved' ends up actually as about £0.5bn.

If you want to save £5bn take it from billionaires who don't spend it, and don't need it.

The problem of too many cars isn’t just about the tailpipe. And altho EVs seemingly address that issue (or “move” it, depending on the electricity source), their increased weight, and the potential increase in size & distance driven (due to #JevonsParadox) make EVs “complicated.”
