[millions of people learn about major event in US history that’s been ignored and buried by teaching curricula/the general public for decades]

this becomes a thread that later complains about people saying a major impact of the series was it leading to widespread awareness of the tulsa race massacre because it’s “kinda embarrassing” and “sub-optimal”, which is such a slinking coward response. sure it’s sub-optimal, but it still matters!!!

i should not be posting about the last jedi. it’s december 2025. but since approximately 0.01% of the last jedi discussion on the internet is based on sincere analysis of its ideas, i cannot help but grab onto the rare moment

this is like when i see people treat lines like “you’re nobody. but not to me.” as like. romantic??? instead of obviously abusive and exploitative??? but reylos are historically baffling, so at least willful misinterpretations are to be expected there

“yiik is a messy indie rpg with an overly-wide reach and some iffy ideas” morphing into “yiik is The Room meets [insert your least favorite gamer here]” starts to seem like a heavily manufactured/predetermined outcome when you crunch the numbers

the only things i’ve ever really known about it are that the protagonist sucks and that it’s partially based on the death of elisa lam, the latter of which is borderline-unacceptable but certainly not definitive of the whole game. has yiik been exclusively defined by its worst moments? nobody knows

i *do* find the newfound angle on “can you quote avatar” as compared to the classic “can you name any characters” pretty funny because like. can you quote half the movies you watch. why would quoting a movie ever matter anyway! at least the character names thing was a somewhat comedic idea at first

i guess when your entire marketing plan hinges on social media outrage culture it’s the only reasonable option, really, it’s just depressing
