"Did Ghandi ever say 'Deeds, not words'? Yes! He probably did. But not as bad as I did." -- Barry Bostwick on GHANDI winning the 1982 Academy Award for Best Picture instead of MEGAFORCE.

A visual feast, arresting performances all around. Harrowing, heartbreaking and laugh out loud funny in spots. If you have a chance, definitely see it on a big screen. Did my grinchy cinematic heart a lot of good to see it in a packed theater when the film was already streaming on Netflix.

I mean, if you kinda squint, you can see a raised arm, a head tucked behind the arm, and part of a torso. But most likely its pareidolia. This was 1958 after all.

So, the scene at Doc Hallen's in THE BLOB '58. Hallen orders Nurse Kate to stay while going for a gun. But it's already too late; she's been consumed like the old man / patient zero. And when the Blob rolls into view, I kinda like to think those darker crimson streaks are what's left of Nurse Kate.

Would you all join me in wishing a Happy Birthday to my Little Bear - alias The Hell Kitten (which is meant reverently). One year old now, she's a little bigger and a lot more ornery, but I will treasure rescuing this little life, who had an indomitable will to live. Here's to our next adventure.

I knew that Blackenstein ad was a ringing a bell. Now if you'll excuse me, my head hurts at the comparison.

I absolutely adore this candid, behind the scenes photo of Roger Dicken, David Allen and Jim Danforth during the making of WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH (1970). A brief moment of levity during a very tumultuous production.

Two huge Thumbs Up on FLOW (2024). An engaging and endearing animated fairy tale about a group of mismatched non-anthropomorphized animals going on a journey in a world suddenly covered in water. It's all told visually, too. (These animals don't talk. They just are.) Highly recommended.

Tonight's inadvertent double feature. I started DEATH CRUISE (1974) thinking it was the one with the Egyptian curse but turns out, no, that's CRUISE INTO TERROR (1978). And here we are.
