This is so damn sad. That Danny isn't widely known as one of the greatest American writers is about the shape of the literary world, not the quality of his work. He was a real one.
Daniel Woodrell, the author of “Winter’s Bone” who was known for his tales of violence and squalor in his native Ozarks, died on Friday. He was 72.
Daniel Woodrell, ‘Country Noir’ Novelist of ‘Winter’s Bone,’ Dies at 72
His tales of violence and squalor in his native Ozarks had the timeless quality of fables and inspired several movies.

I didn't know I needed to know about James Woods's feelings about Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin’s talent and daring went way beyond the capabilities of the headbanging deadweights who hung off the group’s example, James Wood writes. “Its violence tore things apart which its musicianship put back together.”
Led Zeppelin Gets Into Your Soul
The musicians were diabolically bad as people, and satanically good as performers.
