Because yes, Thanksgiving as a national holiday has to do with the Civil War and not the Puritans or previously proclaimed days of Thanksgiving (of which there were hundreds) - so be sure, as you gather about the table, to give thanks for the victories brought by Union arms at Vicksburg & Gettysburg

Reporter: “Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?”

Mamdani: “I've spoken about–”

Trump: “That's ok. You can just say yes. It's easier than explaining it. I don't mind.”

The partisan divide has grown, too. The wealthiest 100 tended to give more to Republicans than to Democrats before last year. But giving to the GOP spiked in 2024, with *84%* of donations going to back Republicans or conservative PACs.

Rural home prices are up 61% since the pandemic, outpacing urban areas. Why? Remote work is driving demand, but limited supply is pricing out locals. According to Redfin, you now need a $74k income to afford a rural home—double the pre-pandemic requirement.

The next Dem admin does not need to abolish ICE, just raise physical and educational requirements until hardly anyone who wants the job would qualify.
ESQUIRE: “ICE is hiring literally anybody, and it’s terrifying… people who flunk the exam, criminal records… yet they’re allowed to tear children from their beds at night.”

Most people think of a dichotomy between renting and owning, but its really a continuum with condos/HOAs on the renting-side-of-owning and e.g., chattel MH on the owning-side-of-renting etc.
I will never live in a home subject to an HOA. I am shocked that so many people choose to live in one and then fight them to the death. This @nytimes.com story on how HOAs encourage the most antisocial of antisocial behaviors is Exhibit A (gift link): www.nytimes.com/2025/11/19/u...

Happy #MapMonday! Net migration in rural areas surged during the pandemic—and remains high. In many of these communities, migration is offsetting steep natural loss. See where in the dark green on the map, and read more in my new @harvard-jchs.bsky.social blog: www.jchs.harvard.edu/blog/post-pa....

I was on a panel with Bostic at my first ever APPAM circa 2013 or so.
Raphael Bostic at #appam2025 on his journey to becoming President of the Atlanta Federal Reserve - notes that he almost quit grad school multiple times, because “it is hard”: up to that point you are absorbing information as a student - in grad school you are a producer of information.

GOP congressmen want the National Guard in Charlotte. Here's where violent crime is a bigger problem.
Sure, the data can't always tell the entire story. But one representative who's asking for a deployment isn't suggesting the same solution for a more violent place in his own district.
