I’m taking a brief writing break for a few weeks (which I haven’t done in five+ years) and a social media break (which I used to do every year), but I’ll be back! Thank you all for your support and I’ll see you all soon.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, a DEA official called me to discuss a pharmacy relocation in "Sha-lah-té." I finally realized he was talking about Shallotte.

I said "app-uh-LAY-shun" state once on a podcast and got dragged for a good year afterward
There was a kerfuffle a while back when the Joes mispronounced a town name on their OG podcast, but I can't remember the specifics. The North/South Carolina "Beaufort" dichotomy is interesting.

when I flew out of Melbourne to RDU, the gate agent pronounced “you’re going to Raleigh?” in a way that I didn’t understand what he was asking me and even that was closer to being right than how Ochocinco said it
