I highly recommend the book Human Acts by Han Kang. I did not know South Korea struggled with authoritarianism into the 1980s.

A great depiction of what it takes to get out from under authoritarianism.

Where are the economists? I thought trade deficits didn’t matter because when we bought X, we got the value of X while the seller got the money.

You run a “trade defecit” with your local sandwich shop but it doesn’t matter because you get lunch for your money.
Trump: "We were the richest relatively -- think of this -- from 1870 to 1913. That was our richest. Because we collected tariffs ... we had so much wealth. Of course, now we give it away to transgender ... everybody gets a transgender operation."
