A largely dry spell is expected across Ireland from Monday onward. Colder conditions will develop from mid-week, with some chilly days and cold nights continuing through to the start of the New Year. Despite the drop in temperatures, no significant wintry weather is currently expected

Tonight’s GFS has taken a colder turn for Christmas. Until now it had been signalling average or only slightly below-average temps. After successive years of milder-than-average Christmas periods, some more festive weather may finally be on the cards. Still plenty to play out.

It is −2.7 °C at Markree in County Sligo and 8 °C at Mace Head in County Galway, a temperature difference of 10.7 °C between the two ends of the province of Connacht. Tonight will be much milder as warmer air extends from the Atlantic.

The GFS mean tonight shows some heights ridging from the continent, our south and the northwest just before Christmas. A sign of less unsettled conditions for the festive period perhaps.

Long term weather prospects: There’s nothing in any of the model ensembles to suggest anything other than average to slightly above-average temperatures, with spells of rain or showers and the odd windy episode, right through to Christmas. It reached 16–17°C today.

Bram was the second named storm of the 2025–26 season. It caused travel disruption and power outages for many, while others experienced little more than a "typical dirty winter’s day". Some coastal flooding was also reported.

On a separate note, it is 16°C in parts of Ireland at 10am, including at Phoenix Park in Dublin where the previous record high for this date was set in 1994 (14.5 °C).

Latest forecast data for Storm Bram indicates a slight weakening in wind strength, with the strongest winds impacting southern and southeastern coastal areas. We are moving into nowcast territory with this highly unpredictable system.
