Fun fact: George R.R. Martin attended Northwestern University in Evanston (the first lakeside suburb north of Chicago), where he experienced the notorious blizzard of 1967. I’ve heard stories about that winter from older relatives. It inspired Martin’s giant Wall and harsh winters of Winterfell.
