also, in keeping with Vance’s view of american identity, only white people are fully American with the right to critique or dissent. nonwhites must show proper gratitude (supporting Trump or marrying JD Vance) before they can speak critically of the country (in approved ways, of course)

Oklahoma and A&M barely squeaked by Auburn. Ole Miss only beat Kentucky by a touchdown.

What does all that portend? Maybe nothing. But what if Carolina gets a couple defensive or special teams scores (like the two it needed to soundly beat South Carolina State) and OC Mike Shula drops the reins

So it’s tough to think of this as a get-right game. Carolina’s still leaky—on both sides of the ball—and after a bye week starts the brutal stretch of the schedule, with potentially five top-ten opponents in a row. Alabama and LSU are coming off big week five wins, but both are (clearly) beatable.

LaNorris Sellers looked more like he did last year, but the offense is still sputtering. Only Sellers picked up more than four yards a carry, and Rahsul Faison and Matt Fuller didn’t even pick up three. Only Vandrevius Jacobs caught more than one pass.

and we’re left with a score of 21–13. I know, football doesn’t work that way, and yes, that’s still a Carolina win. But turnovers dug Kentucky into a hole that they couldn’t escape—without them, maybe Kentucky doesn’t force the passing game and maybe Seth McGowan keeps slashing the Gamecock defense

The read is that Carolina was probably lucky to keep this one that close.

Kentucky’s next, at home, and then a bye week heading into the murderers row of at LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, at Mississippi, at Texas A&M. If Carolina doesn’t pick up a win next week, it might be until November—

Brian Rowe looks like a ballplayer, Gerald Kilgore came up with a pick and the defensive backs had three nice break-ups.

But that Carolina was still within spitting distance in the fourth quarter thanks to some big plays and big breaks doesn’t suggest that this was one that just slipped away.

Factor in, too, that Carolina racked up fourteen penalties for ninety-eight yards.

So, yeah, bad football all around: a defense that has trouble tackling, an offense that can’t establish a ground game, a team that takes too many penalties.
