I've been putting off sorting a decent backup strategy out for...two years now? It took about 30 minutes to configure MEGA.NZ's s3-compatible endpoint with the NixOS options module and the restic documentation. The deduplication / compression seems to reduce one of my datasets 5x.

secondly, it supports loads of storage backends, for example s3-compatible APIs, which was incredibly trivial to configure
thirdly, you can MOUNT the immutable, deduplicated, compressed, encrypted snapshots and interact with a read-only view of it like a normal filesystem

I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse that I'm certainly not allowed to use NixOS home-manager on my work machine
