That would be great! I did navigate inside of it, but didn't write anything else to it. I'm using Microsoft's file recovery tool on it now but yes I'd like the binaries if you have them! @davep

😭 just accidentally deleted my entire manuscript folder where all my drafts are on my external hard drive. I used, shift delete, as opposed to just pressing the regular delete key. Is there a #cli tool I can get on windows that would recover the folder? At least part of it? 🤬😡🥹😭😭😭

Hey #webdev looking for a form builder that has branching capabilities. For example, on question 1, if a user selects, A, questions related to, A, will show up, and have very nice result printings as a result. I need to make an intake form and want to make it extremely smooth on everyone.

Our friends at AltStore are joining the Fediverse! Along with their alternative app store for iOS, this is one more way they’re supporting a more open web and app ecosystem - missions we believe in.

We’re grateful for their work and for their generous sponsorship of our timeline app […]

I mean, this is fine, but I wish there was an option for me and others to never be included in starter packs at all but keep some discovery features. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/10/our-ideas-about-packs/ #mastodon #fediverse #privacy
Our ideas about Packs
## Background Mastodon’s timeline doesn’t rely on dopamine-driven algorithms – it is chronological and consent-based, showing only posts from accounts you (the person using Mastodon) have followed. This focus on privacy and conscious consumption is what leads many people to join the Fediverse in the first place. It also places an unfair ultimatum on incoming users: You’ll have to make an effort to figure out who to follow, or your timeline will mostly be empty. Bluesky pioneered a brilliant solution to this “empty feed problem” in 2024, with the introduction of “Starter Packs”, a feature that allows users to curate and share their own collections of recommended accounts. We believe that these kinds of user-generated, curated collections could help people to find their tribe more quickly when they join the Fediverse. At the same time, envisioning a similar feature that prioritises user consent, _and_ works across a constellation of independent servers, is no small feat. In this blog post, we want to talk about bringing a similar concept to Mastodon and the Fediverse. We’ll use the word “Packs” to refer to the shareable collections of identifiers throughout, but we’ve not yet landed on final terminology - so, consider this word a placeholder, and not what this will definitely be called in Mastodon. ## Challenges and considerations We know that there have been existing efforts to make it easier to discover curated collections of users (for example, fedidevs.com offers “Starter Packs”). We’ve been happy to see these being shared, as they can help people discover interesting individuals and organisations to follow. We’d be equally happy to have the creators of these tools provide feedback on our own ideas 🙂 We believe that there are several ways to improve on the existing examples, that are more aligned with the values we try to bring to the Fediverse, and that offer more to the decentralised ecosystem as a whole. Firstly, it’s important to us that users have control over whether they appear in Packs on Mastodon. Early design explorations with our concept of Packs led us to the following possibilities: * Packs will become an extension of discovery. Users who wish to opt out entirely from Packs will be able to do so by disabling the existing setting, labelled _“Feature profile and posts in discovery algorithms”_. This will signal that an account cannot be added to a Pack. * Users will be notified when they are included in a Pack. Unlike on Bluesky, where users wishing to remove themselves from a Starter Pack must either report the Starter Pack, or block the user, users on Mastodon will have a more neutral mechanism to remove themselves from a Pack they do not wish to be part of. (note: we implemented something similar with the Quote Posts feature, where an original post can be removed from a quote post; this same idea would flow through to Packs). As always, federation presents its own challenges. Just as Mastodon users can follow people on other Fediverse servers, our goal is for them to also be able to find and interact with Packs created elsewhere in the Fediverse. When Alice creates a Pack on her server `example.com`, how does Bob on `example.online` get to know about it, and come to interact with it? What if `example.com` and `example.online` run different ActivityPub-compatible software? These questions can be addressed via established Fediverse discussion processes. ## Next steps We’re in the process of collaborating with other Fediverse developers on a Fediverse Enhancement Proposal (FEP), so that a common implementation for Packs can be made available to developers of any ActivityPub software. The initial work is now available on GitHub. The FEP process will be the place to direct any technical questions. Meanwhile, we’re also conducting broader research to understand overarching themes related to user onboarding, and how we can make things easier for people to get started on Mastodon. We expect to release an initial version of Packs, plus other minor improvements to onboarding, in Mastodon 4.6. In the meantime, the next stable release (Mastodon 4.5) is right around the corner! ### We want to hear your thoughts We want to make Packs a great feature for discovery and onboarding! If you have thoughts on the ideas described above (beyond the technical aspects that will be part of the FEP), contact us at [email protected]. We may not be able to respond to every individual message, but we’ll be reading every piece of feedback to learn more about your ideas.

I Love You More Than Books
I hope to give this letter to a special man, one day. I love you more than I love my books. Your cover is the one thing I look forward to each day. Your leather binding captivates my eye. Your words always keep me turning the pages, wanting more. I love the plot points you reveal to me when we are communicating. I can't find the words to describe my feelings when I pick you up and begin a new chapter. I love how there are so many verbs in your steps, so many adjectives in each syllable you utter, such deep metaphors in every unspoken thought. I love it when you show me striking flashbacks. Each night, I set a bookmark so the next morning I can pick up where I left off. Each time a chapter ends, I love turning back the pages to gaze one final time on what a splendid story we made together. When you make me feel the best I can feel, you are my romance novel. When you make me laugh out loud, you are my humor novella. When you tell me you love me and I know it's true, you are my short story. I look forward to dwelling in your pages, reading chapter after chapter each day. I never want to give you up. I never want to place your beautiful story back on the shelf to be replaced by some tragedy. You are, and forever will be, a best-seller in my eyes.

a frank piece about influencers https://blog.avas.space/influencers/ #socialmedia
a frank piece about influencers
I wish we were all generally more aware of what a lie the popular influencer lifestyle is, at least of the vast majority. People that read blogs like mine are probably more aware, but others less so, especially children. Some are more media-literate than others and are able to detect the foolery, but usually just bits and pieces of it instead of the entire picture. So I just want to sit down and discuss the whole picture. ☁️☁️☁️ The obvious has been spread around far and wide: Everyone knows the products they show are not the ones they actually use or like, they were paid to promote it and they got it for free. Some influencers have since opened up about the flood of PR packages and how much they either donate or sadly throw away. But what less people know is: The designer bags are fakes a lot of the time. If you are in the right online spaces where people care for spotting this stuff, you can see them post proof by zooming in at a specific part of videos and showing the original bag has a different clasp or a wider rim or has a number there or different packaging. When actually showing off real designer items, some have admitted to simply renting or buying for the video and then returning them, or that they are able to claim these items as a tax write-off for being in a video. The trips they constantly go on are brand trips they get for free. Even if not, we have all seen how they rent parts of fake planes to take a picture and pretend. Others have pretended to be on vacation for far longer than they actually were, slowly releasing pictures from one day over the course of 2-3 weeks to make it seem like they’re still there. The cars they show driving in some videos are leased for the video, or a test drive at the dealership, or bought with money they don’t have and go into debt for. They’re indebting themselves in the hopes that having this luxury item for content will bring in the money to make up for it. They call this financial irresponsibility “investing into their career”. The houses they allegedly buy are rented or just a temporary AirBnB. What I’ve also seen is that the background they use that seems perfect and aesthetic is often a set in a rented warehouse or a single corner in their apartment, while their actual living space doesn’t look like that at all. Especially cooking content is often not filmed in their own kitchen, but one they rent. If you want to know how far some are willing to take the lies: One influencer always records videos cooking for one and cleaning the house where only her items are seen because her content strategy is about being a single woman, but she was exposed for having had a boyfriend all this time. It’s totally fine to not want to show partners or them not wanting to be shown, but this influencer went as far as to completely hide any sort of hint in the videos, cleaning up the entire side of his sink, hiding his shoes, coats, and all that just to keep up a false image to a downright creepy degree. Everything for the personal brand! A while ago, a video went around lamenting that so many influencers, especially in NYC, are so boring and the same. The reason seems to be that they aren’t recording their true life, as it’s been shown that many of them have the same content manager, who applies the same cookie-cutter copy-and-paste lifestyle onto all of her clients. Shana Davis-Ross is the founder of the Ponte Firm, which created this sort of content franchise and what’s known as the “West Village Girl.” That’s why they do the same workouts, go to the same studios, wear the same outfits, and get matcha at the same cafés. The goal isn’t to be authentic or show their real life, it’s to create a brand-safe image so that brands might want to work with them. You aren’t seeing someone’s life, you’re seeing someone’s job. If you know customer service voice, it’s the same here but with influencer voice. If you’ve ever had to say complete bullshit just because it is mandatory under corporate policy, this is the same. Everything is filtered through their team, their content manager, the pre-approved brand text down to what is allowed in the image and what isn’t. For relatability, they like to lie about having a job. The nepo babies under them usually don’t, and most hide and delete comments about their rich families, or the fact that they earn most of their money by being “yacht girls”. Some are bold enough to talk about this online stuff as a job and then show their “full calendar” and if you zoom in, the calendar/todo list is: * Take bath * Make Matcha * Have meeting * Pilates * Film TikTok You know, what the rest of us are doing next to a fulltime job. Their alleged routines shown on camera are a lie: the times shown as a text on screen are not the actual times that these were filmed in. This content is recorded over several days and stitched together to seem like it was one day, and the times aren’t right. If you zoom into clocks being shown (like a wristwatch, wall clock, laptop clock etc.) it shows a completely different time. Not only that, but people such as Hannah Alonzo actually went out of their way to prove that the times aren’t right based on the position of the sun and the lighting in the shots. Now onto the ones trending especially hard right now: The crunchy wellness, fitness, orthorexia influencers are not only filtering and editing themselves to high heavens, they also hide the absolute damage they are doing to their bodies. 4-5h of high intensity training every day with no rest on a diet fit for a toddler is not normal or “wellness”. Their migrated filler is causing their face to be puffy and saggy and therefore hiding the ana-face they’d otherwise have. It’s also so crazy to me that we have grifters on TikTok talking about being a trad wife - pretending they don’t work, that the man is the head of the household, some even saying that women shouldn’t work or be able to vote. Meanwhile, they themselves are often the breadwinner in their household due to their social media income, they are business owners aggressively spreading their views online instead of letting their husband speak, they go on making their own decisions attending podcasts and other events and they make political statements while influencing their viewers. If that’s not a modern woman, I don’t know what is. Then there’s alpha males talking about red pill stuff, getting any woman you want, and pretending they’re getting all or most of their money through their own social media content and bullshit courses they’re offering. They’re always flexing their wealth and vaguely talking about some “management” and showing themselves on a laptop “working” or as if they’d be analyzing stocks or daytrading. But what they’re actually doing most of the time is being an OF manager. Some admit it here and there, like that asshole Jack Doherty, but most are more hush hush about it. That’s right, the vast majority these “successful” hypermasculine men who pretend they’re selfmade on TikTok are leeching off of women’s success and are literally pimps and gold diggers. They manage online sex workers’ content and promote it, and in turn get a cut. The models also often show up in their videos for added exposure. The men usually shorten it to “OFM” for “Only Fans Management”, or talk vaguely about being part of “an agency”. Thinking about this entire eco system is so nuts. Stupid ragebait videos and podcasts and courses to pretend you don’t like “sluts” or “feminists”, meanwhile your livelihood depends on these women and your work is posting their creampie content to their OF page and you’re probably on chat duty responding to some gooner so he spends more money. You justify this with “I’m just taking advantage of these losers bro” “I’m getting my bag bro” but it’s actually so embarrassing to be such a hypocrite. You’re not selfmade, you were hired by that 19 year old that makes more money than you to do annoying work she doesn’t wanna do, while publicly looking down on people like her. Then there’s also the MLM huns and the people flexing wealth trying to get you into “high ticket sales”, which is also a scam, but way, way too much to even get into. All this is why education, media literacy and critique is important. In the end, the life you might be envious of isn’t even lived by the person that’s promoting it. Take care of yourself, you’re better than this, and stop giving these clowns further attention whose only job is to flex on the people who can’t afford groceries anymore. Is this phenomenon new? No. My favorite castle I sometimes visit has a beautiful dining room, and when you stand in it and look up, you see a small balcony on each wall of it, which was for when the common folk would be invited to watch the rich people in the castle eat from up there. Apparently, we have always been freaks who got a kick out of watching someone else live an extremely lavish life while we struggle, but still. We don’t have to entertain this complete web of play-pretend online that tries to convince us to buy crap we don’t need. > Reply via email > Published 06 Oct, 2025

Updated my list of audio only let's plays. If you know of any I left out, ping me. https://sightlessscribbles.com/posts/20250409/ #gaming #letsplay #games #streaming #podcast #podcasts
Audio only Let's Plays With Audio Description.
If you're blind or prefer audio content, like me, or just find that YouTube is becoming more and more cumbersome to use, audio Let's Plays are out there, and, over the past month, I've become enamored with finding audio only Let's Plays to listen, and try. If you don't know what a Let's Play is, read this, but it's basically an activity where you watch someone play a video game. It can be very relaxing as the person gives commentary or talks about the game or their thoughts about the game or just reacts to the game's story in real time as they are playing. Let's Plays are usually a visual thing. They're everywhere on YouTube, and are just now starting to make their way to PeerTube, for example, but even in the realm of Let's Plays, audio only Let's Plays are still very rare, which is interesting because video games have audio description now but nobody, apart from my own podcast, is taking advantage of built in audio description for these games, which would be perfect for any of the podcasts below, but baby steps I guess? My quest to find audio Let's Plays started because YouTube has become very cumbersome to use. Because I find YouTube so broken, I am starting to prefer more open spaces such as podcasts and PeerTube. Not everyone is on PeerTube though so podcasts have been my go to for a while now, partially because they aren't subjected to tech deterioration as much as proprietary platforms. Simply put, if anything about a podcast app annoys me or feels hostile, I'm not locked into that app. I can take my RSS feeds and move elsewhere, and creators don't lose an audience member/fan. This isn't the case with YouTube. Podcasts also take up less battery life because they're audio based and they're easier to stream and download for offline listening. Since podcasts are my go to now, and long into the future, one thing I was missing was Let's Play content. I love Let's Play content because maybe I'm interested in a game, but not interested enough to play it. I can still engage with the story and the lor and have a good time listening to someone else play the game and talk about the game. Even today, few games are accessible enough to where I can play them independently as a totally blind person. Let's Plays act as a gateway for me to experience, tangentionally, a previously inaccessible game. I wanted to take Let's Plays into my podcast apps with me, so I began researching to see what audio Let's Plays exist. I'm super happy to say I've found some! ## The audio Let's Plays. Before my list, here's another list of audio Let's Play podcasts Archive for the previous list but many of the links in this post are broken, but it's still worth exploring. Also, if you don't like video games but love tabletop games, listen to people playing tabletop games too I intentionally wrote about the below podcasts in the past tense, partially because I'm lazy and all podcasts end at some point. I also explain which ones provide audio description, describing what's happening for the listener. 1. RSS Sightless Scribbles, my podcast, showcased audio games and games with built in audio description. 2. Reignite RSS Reignite Covered all Mass Effect games. Provided audio description. 3. Retrograde Amnesia is more studying JRPG's but sometimes played them too. Sometimes, audio description was provided.) 4. RSS Hyrule Podcasters. The Legend of Zelda Audio Only Let’s Play Provided audio description for all the games they played. 5. Planescape: Torment - The Unofficial Audio Series largely focused on the 19999 game. A fully voiced re-telling of the game’s story with a modern take and narrative drive. 6. This is video games Provided audio description and read the screen. Played adult games. 7. RSS TroytlePowerPresents: The Power Play-Throughs Podcast. Played a lot of indie games. Provided audio description and read the screen. 8. RSS Daniel K's Let's Plays. Played a lot of handheld games. Provided audio description and read the screen most of the time. 9. No One can Know About this. Feed for No one can know about this. A heavily edited Let's Play podcast that focused a lot on Final Fantasy Games, with their own brand of audio description thrown in as well. 10. Gorilla's playthroughs. RSS for Gorilla's playthrough. Provides audio description for games and even describes the menus sometimes. Shockingly, my sighted friends loved the audio description touches in this podcast because it's absolutely meant for audio since it's made with blind listeners in mind. 11. Hello Hyrule: A Legend of Zelda Travelogue. Feed for Hello Hyrule: A Legend of Zelda Travelogue.Played through all the Zelda games and also provided audio description and reads off dialog. Very fun crew! 12. Sacred Realms: A Zelda Retrospective Podcast. Recorded in traditional Let's Play style where no audio description is provided but commentary abounds. Excellent sound quality. 13. Enchantment: Dragon Age Let's Play Podcast. Feed for Enchantment: Dragon Age Let's Play Podcast. Traditional Let's Play style without audio description but still very fun crew. They branched out to other games, but their back catalog focused primarily on Dragon Age. 14. RSS Play Along Podcast. Another traditional Let's Play style, but they focused a lot on indie games, which I loved! They'd sometimes provide audio description but mostly it was commentary and discussion. 15. Let's Listen. Provided audio description. Story-driven Let's Plays in an audio-only format! Let's Listen to removed the loading screens, gameplay, and boring bits of video games, so you can sit back and enjoy the story. 16. RSS Lokathor's Audio Only Let's Plays. Played all kinds of games. No audio description though, but still very fun! 17. Checkin' It: An Audio-Only Let's Play Podcast. Played a bunch of chess and chess style games. 18. Skeleton House - Video Game Let's Plays. Played a bunch of games with a lively crew! Sometimes provided audio description but not consistently.
