Some think that insisting on the 5-7-5 syllable rule in English #haiku is to misunderstand the rules of Japanese language and poetry. Me, I like the discipline. The puzzle of 5-7-5 ties up the conscious mind and frees the subconscious. Some people are into bondage for the same reason, perhaps.
