Real house prices are really high and mortgage rates would have to get really low to get affordability back to 2015-2019 levels. Unclear that housing will save us. Home ATM might help but you need a lot of mortgage origination.

This seems wrong to me. One, a risk off cycle has broader wealth effect implications than top decile right now given breadth of American wealth in equities right now not to mention crypto holdings. Two, unemployment did go up in 2001 despite concentration of stock crash in tech. Three...

I agree blame has a negative connotation I just think if you're taking credit for the fight people are going to learn to credit you for the fight whether negative or positive.

I mean Democrats are also taking credit for it because voters are on our side and our side is hearing that message. "We shut down the government because we want you to have ACA subsidies" is a message that Democrats are pumping out, reasonably. In general, I think the leaders have done well here!

The biggest shift is among Democrats blaming their own representatives which I think speaks to the failure of Dem leadership to more forcefully blame Republicans for the shutdown but also how weird.

Agree with all of this. I just want some humility! I also thought Uber was a flawed and fucked business model long run and I was wrong. It's not like cars couldn't be described as depreciating quickly.

It's true, otoh, Moore's law applies to chips still seemingly and didn't to Uber's business. If they just stopped trying to be at the frontier and chip cost fell by 90% over the next 5 years, who knows?

Also re banning exports, if gas is plentiful and cheap and replaces coal and supports renewables growth by dealing with intermittency/peak load issues, why should that be reserved for the US?

? for followers: if I said "we need to expand natural gas production" would your reaction be 1) no wind/ solar are cheaper and gas contributes to climate change, 2) gas is a necessary complement to renewables until batteries/nuclear scale, or 3) we should curb energy use at data centers?

Sora has an obvious route to profitability that Reels/Instagram/Youtube have, which is selling stuff while addicting people to AI generated crap. Their recommendation algorithms are great for selling us stuff. They might even make the ads themselves. Compute costs can and will go down.
