I believe they are primarily sensory and perhaps sensitive to vibrations that pass along the cave walls as other guys skitter around. By nature these guys will fan out along a wall forming a lattice and I believe are near/completely blind so as much sensory input as possible is probably relevant
I wonder what the tiny spikes on his legs are for. they are very rough and hard to pass your finger along the wrong way, so maybe they stick in the throat of birds or herps that try to swallow prey whole.

A Leaf-tailed Gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus) from a nighttime hike east-central Madagascar. We saw a handful of these lizards and I'm surprised we did, given their complete commitment to dead leaf mimicry. No doubt we walked by dozens more. #herps #NaturePhotography 🌿
