Union A-Z: We prefer voluntary recognition because it’s faster, it saves everyone time and money, and it shows real respect for workers’ voices. ✅
VOLUNTARY RECOGNITION [noun]
When an employer agrees to recognize a union after a majority of workers show support without requiring a formal election overseen by the NLRB. Once recognition is granted, the employer agrees to begin bargaining in good faith with the union over wages, hours, and working conditions.

“In March, COURIER and the WGAE reached an agreement for the voluntary recognition of COURIER’s 50-member staff union including reporters, editors, designers, and social media managers.”

The WGAE stands in solidarity with @sagaftra.org following the unprovoked attack on member Asal Rezaei as she was arriving to cover a story at the Broadview, Illinois, ICE Facility.

Protect Free Speech: Solidarity with SAG-AFTRA

The WGAE, which represents writers and producers at CBS News Chicago, stands with SAG-AFTRA and their member, Asal Rezaei, who was targeted by federal agents while reporting from an ICE Facility. This was an unprovoked attack on the free press and we support SAG-AFTRA’s demand that this incident be thoroughly and independently investigated.

East coast folks! NEXSTAR AND SINCLAIR, which own a HUGE percentage of your local broadcasters, are still kowtowing to fascist 47 and his administration's attempt to stifle free speech. This is bigger than Kimmel. Get out there, (dress like a Jedi?), and let your voice be heard!

“It’s hard to push back when you don’t have power, but Bob Iger and Dana Walden have power,” [WGAW President Meredith] Stiehm said of Disney’s CEO and entertainment chair. “They know what this is. This is appeasement. This is cowardice. They’re being bullied. And they should say no."

It was a great action. This audience knew the stakes and was ready to let Disney know. At least one audience member sent a letter while waiting in line.

Our union, the WGA East, represents most of the late-night writers. They are middle-class workers who toil crazy hours writing the jokes and bits you see and hear as you end your day. They love what they do but they work their asses off. Now their careers are in peril.

I know we keep focusing on Colbert and Kimmel as we should, but we also need to remember there are hundreds of people who work for these shows who also just lost their jobs because of this bullshit, and most of them are probably not millionaires.
