Politics/IT nerd, trying to filter wheat from chaff of the information flood. Enjoys the promulgation of malaphors and Wildean epigrams.
The centre continues to poll well, as it always has in Australia, but the centre is now the ALP and the Teals, not the Liberals.

The Liberals are no longer a "party of government", especially tied to the Nationals which are now a "party for mining", not agriculture.

Is the growth of ON "sticky" or is it just disdain for LNP because they are so dysfunctional?

ON has never been able to put together a good slate of candidates, let alone an "alternative govt".

Will people choosing ON now will go back to the LNP when it comes time to vote, at least in the House?

Hope the trip goes well and you enjoy a summer Xmas :)

Personally, I think this is something that the citizens of the United States need to deal with first.

They need to hold their executive branch accountable to their laws.
December 2, 2025 at 12:31 AM
I know, but this might be considered a legitimate legal action by those governments.

The US attacked vessels in Colombian territorial waters, not international waters, so that's an act of war.
December 2, 2025 at 12:30 AM
There's nothing to stop either Venezuela or Colombia from putting out an Interpol Red Notice for arrest under their own laws.

Might make travel a bit more spicy after these people leave office.

Going to war over what exactly?

This is just an oil grab.

Great perspective! The "good old days" is when "everyone did the same as me, but I didn't adapt to the changes and new possibilities, and now I feel like I not only have FOMO, but that I don't know how to try new stuff!"

Explains PHON and MAGAts and cookers and...
December 1, 2025 at 3:39 PM
I'm not sure how that works, given that the US is not a party to the International Criminal Court.

But Venezuela or Colombia could put out an Interpol "Red Notice" and other countries can decide whether to arrest him.

No one says that Rick was a paragon of virtue in his career as a political wrangler, but he's been on the right side of history for 12 years now.
We're well past "nasty political campaigns" & heavily into "authoritarian and oligarchic control" which needs everyone fighting against that common foe.

A civil war, or maybe the continuation of the unresolved issues from the first.

If they manage to get through this administration, they can't just go back to "regular order" and hope for the best.

They will need to do a root-and-branch removal of authoritarian overreach & serious reform of powers.
December 1, 2025 at 12:22 PM
This is no longer "politics", this is the collapse of the US Republic. It won't make its 250th birthday.

I'm no longer sure it will make the 2026 elections.

The problem is not the courts.

The problem is Congress. They have abdicated their responsibility to uphold their oaths of office.

That's started to crack, both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees announced they would investigate (both R chairs & both D ranking announced it)

He is not part of the military, so is not subject to the UCMJ or martial courts.

He can be impeached and convicted by Congress, which would kick him out of his job.

He can be prosecuted for ordering war crimes in Federal Courts, but the current DOJ is completely compromised.

One for you, one for Unit, one for Kitty and one for all of you.

Makes perfect sense.

Not sure it was "secret", more that it was "private".

Not sure whether the press embargoed or they just did a simple wedding and no one noticed.
November 29, 2025 at 11:47 AM
He is not a member of the military or subject to the UCMJ.

He can be charged federally, but given the current state of the DOJ, the chances of that are zero.

However, the commanders that followed this illegal order can be prosecuted by courts-martial.

All of the nonsense at the airports don't make 1 difference to the security of air travel.

Stupid knee jerk shit like taking shoes off for 20 years because one guy loaded his sneakers with explosive.

It's actually hard to blow up a plane.

9/11 was boxcutters, & unlocked cockpits.
November 26, 2025 at 3:49 PM
Agreed, there are good airlines and Asian/ME/some EU airports are awesome.

US airports are suckholes, and their TSA is beyond compare as to bullshit and power-trips.
November 26, 2025 at 5:16 AM
What makes it suck today is the bullshit security theater at the airports, the requirement for only the named passenger to travel on a ticket, and the airlines cutting every possible amenity to shave cents off their costs.

The only useful thing out of 9/11 was locked cockpits.
