I've finished my first piece of embroidery! I had the opportunity to learn the basics of tatreez, (Palestinian embroidery) last weekend with Fatima Shaat. Fatima is not only a brilliant law student and writer but also a Gazan refugee, now studying abroad in the Netherlands.
An embroidered cypress tree, an important motif in Palestinian embroidery, called tatreez. Tatreez is a cross-stitch style embroidery art, so the individual stitches each look like a small X. The design is composed of a small red triangle pointing up at the top, a large and tall red triangle outline in dark blue in the middle, and a small red cross at the bottom. The design is embroidered on white cross-stitch fabric in a blue embroidery hoop.

Mimi is happy to be home from the vet! Her heart disease (genetic HCM) has been stable for multiple years so she doesn't have to go back for another echo for 18 months! I was so worried when I lost her brother that I wouldn't get long with her, but my sweetie is 9 now and is still chugging along!

So I underestimated lumbar puncture recovery - I'm at 6.5 days of bed rest now other than a couple of (now regretted) forays out of the house early on. Luckily for me, my mom visited to supply me with caffeine and Tylenol, and Mimi has been taking good care of me! #spoonie

Happy National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day!! Adopting Mimi (and her late brother Loki) was easily one of the best decisions l've ever made - this little one is my soul cat and has completely changed my life. I adopted her 8 years ago from the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington DC.
