Because putting out a lot of hot air about supposed safety is a huge part of Waymo/Alphabet and other AV companies’ marketing and lobbying effort.
Also they’re already being used as an excuse to defund and deprioritize public transit. That will lead to more driving across the board.

Waymo's see and not run over tech is AEB/CAS ADAS not ADS/driver tech, which can and should be in all vehicles by federal mandate.

Cyclist suing Waymo alleges their robot was illegally stopped when she was doored & injured by its passenger (pic1). That inculpatory detail is not in Waymo's NHTSA crash report (pic3) nor that their other robot was allegedly in/blocking the bikelane (pic2).
