"Der Sturm #Darragh hat mir gezeigt, wie unvorbereitet wir auf Katastrophen sind. Nach nur 12 Stunden ohne Strom waren wir isoliert, & mit der Tatsache konfrontiert, dass unser Leben prekärer ist, als es scheint."
Storm Darragh showed me how unprepared my family – and Britain – are for disaster | Gaby Hinsliff
After just 12 hours without power, we were cold, isolated and facing the fact that everyday life is far more precarious than it seems, says Guardian columnist Gaby Hinsliff

Check out this conversation about where we are in the climate crisis (and where we are going)—I didn’t know Richard before we spoke, but now I’m now a HUGE fan 🤩👇👇
Bit later than expected (sorry) but very excited to bring you this extended conversation with @fisherdanar.bsky.social - aka the Apocalyptic Optimist - who literally wrote the book on how to use realism as an antidote to doomerism.

How did a Pacific island classroom thought experiment lead to the US at the Hague answering @rregenvanu.bsky.social that their negligence wasn't just unfortunate but unlawful? @loesvandijk.bsky.social & I spoke w climate expert Elisabeth Holland, who taught at the school when the idea was hatched.

Seen lots of snide commentary that Simon Stiell, UNFCCC exec director, gave a "very long" speech at the gavel of #COP29. So I checked. Without prejudice to opinions about its content or the outcome of the talks, the f'ng speech was 6 minutes.

Six minutes.

Our brains are so broken.

Calling all COP veterans: what now?
Just to emphasize: Saudi Arabia *and only Saudi Arabia* was sent a draft of the COP29 negotiating documents *by the COP presidency* so that Saudi Arabia alone *could edit it directly*.
Man, now Saudi Arabia has apparently been caught editing official COP29 drafts, maybe granted edit access by the COP presidency, Azerbaijan. Rough.

Was going to bitch about @podsaveamerica.bsky.social having ads from BP on their UK feed and then listened to my own feed from ACAST and noticed the glass house I was in. Is it climate-related? Not especially. But almost quit my nearly-first job for opting out of gambling client. Which is there. :-(
