Practical Ecologist and Filmmaker who probably spends a bit too much time building deadwood habitat. Currently working to bring reptiles, amphibians and small mammals back to Hackney Marshes.

No I don’t want to “jump on a quick call.” I want to watch a Wren gather moss and pretend it’s for me.

1. It’s good to see this scandal being called out at last. My thanks and congratulations go to Lee Schofield, Karen Lloyd and Ian Convery. But it’s also absolutely infuriating that it has come to this point, as I explain in this thread.

Banning bonuses for failing water company bosses is important, obvs - but it’s hardly the best we can do? 👀 If we’re serious about ending pollution for profit, water needs to be brought back into public ownership *now*. The fact that Labour Govt won’t even allow it to be considered speaks volumes

Grass snakes and Great crested newts (that ecologists failed to find any evidence of in surveys) were removed and relocated by local people. I could go on and on but this battle is already lost. On the plus side good things are happening in the park, Tom Bellamy seems to be having a positive impact.

In the article they claim pre development that the site was ‘mostly industrial wasteland..’ which is partly true, but this doesn’t make it dead habitat. The Common Lizard population there was huge, most were lost (a few were relocated) Slow worms were completely wiped out as far as I know…

Impact already noticed on the home patch, habitat and species recovery was always going to be tough in an urban environment, but recent temperatures and lack of rain aren’t helping.

Went to look for reptiles, found tiger beetles instead

But seriously if only I had the space for one. I shift a fair bit of weight doing wildlife habitat creation, something like this would be the perfect solution.

Useless for wheelies though!
