I've created a starterpack for my colleagues here at PIK. If you want to follow us and hear about the work we do, look no further!

If I've missed anyone, let me know and I'll add them!

Yeah I was frustrated by this, too. He also never addressed the theft of IP that trains these models, nor the insane environmental impact. Really disappointing tbh.

🚨 New @oceaniceeu.bsky.social preprint🚨 why has Antarctica stopped (net) losing mass, in spite of increased discharge?
Declining sea ice is part of the answer but increasingly heavy and frequent atmospheric rivers are most important factor.

Lots of important subtleties:
arxiv.org/abs/2510.03590
Screenshot of figures from the paper: Above a graph showing wiggly lines depicting the cumulative mass budget of Antarctica: a dark line swoops and wiggles downwards before stabilising at the end, colourful dashed lines (depicting snow fall) wiggle along constantly before sloping upwards at the same tme stabilisation occurs.
Below 6 maps of Antarctica in blues and red depicting the mass change in different basins.

If you drive a 2025/2026 Tesla or still use X, there really isn't an excuse. You really are just an asshole that looks the other way.

Of course, but apparently asking people to fly less voluntarily isn't working so a carbon price and some sort of frequent fliers tax would already go a long way towards changing behaviour. For the non millionaires anyway...

The transition to renewables is more or less inevitable now, but the next big fight will be with the meat industry
willemh.bsky.social
It wouldn't be so bad if the climate cost of flying was actually priced into the ticket.

And not only for work. I still know a lot of colleagues who will happily jet half way around the world each year on vacation.

EAT-Lancet 2.0 report is out today, updating the influential 2019 report.

On my first read it seems to bring further data/evidence to support the big solutions for food/climate/nature: 1) improve productivity & env performance of agriculture, 2) reduce food loss/waste, 3) healthy/sustainable diets.
The EAT–Lancet Commission on healthy, sustainable, and just food systems
The global context has shifted dramatically since publication of the first EAT–Lancet Commission in 2019, with increased geopolitical instability, soaring food prices, and the COVID-19 pandemic exacer...

Food production is the primary driver for breaching 5 of the planetary boundaries & accounts for ca. 30% of global emissions, while billions still lack access to healthy diets. New EAT Lancet report with PIK director Johan Rockström & EAT Forum out now!

Shut the fuck up. Guardian begging for $ every time you open a link, yet they publish this garbage. Tilly isn't an actor. IT is a synthetic piece of AI slop designed to steal humanity in a world already lacking. Fucking clankers.

Once more with gusto: We will introduce a fresh new racist policy every day until racism is defeated.

So if I’ve grasped the galaxy-brained strategy here, it’s:
✅ Day 1: reassure target voters that migrants are a problem & you’re ready to make them suffer
✅ Day 2: tell target voters their ideas are racist
✅ Day 3: reassure target voters that migrants are a problem & you’re ready to make them suffer
Starmer to end asylum ‘golden ticket’ of resettlement and family reunion rights
People granted asylum will have to earn right to invite family in plan charities call ‘straight from populist playbook’

New in PN: Trump attempts a major step toward dictatorship

"So far, nothing he's done has prompted a critical mass of Republicans to speak out about his abuses of power. And in his address to military brass, Trump signaled he intends to go much further."

This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
leahmcelrath.bsky.social
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

Likewise - appears to be broken.
