However. Would a Chinese invaison succeed? Yes. It would be far bloodier than I think the PLA/PLN projected for but Taiwan has no way of receiving outside assistance without the PLN blockade being broken. Unlike Ukraine who have been able to receive aid from multiple bordering countries

Lastly on the sea point: the Taiwanese strait is only calm enough for RORO operations for about 4 months of the year. If China does make a go of it they have a limited window to do so

The other thing is for all Ukraine is huge: its pretty bloody flat. There's not a huge amount of natural obstacles beyond the rivers to form solid defenses behind. Had Russian logistics held Ukraine may have had to surrender the eastern half of the country before being able to realistically dig in

I suppose the other difference for China is that Russia was able to launch from within Ukraine itself: Donetusk and Luhansk were the industrial heartland of Ukraine and Russia was effectively able to bypass urban combat until they besieged Mauripol.

The second point is Taiwan is a far harder invaision prospect: a heavily urbanised enviroment into which the PLN would be expected to make an opposed landing. An operation that would be difficult enough with a seasoned military which China lacks 3/3

Not shouting isn't the same as being polite: the way he used to talk to people: the sneering, the talking over and the digs at the speakers identity hardly scream civility

One unintended fallout of Russian failure has been to temper Chinese expectations around Taiwan: Like Russia, China has spent considerable time, effort and resources in developing a modern, professional military. But Russias failure has sowed doubts in the effectiveness of this new PLA 2/3

What I noticed was that the famously deep equipment reserves started running dry about 10 months ago.

I'd disagree with Kirk: he had no problem being deeply unpleasant and vile to the people he was speaking to, especially if they were a young woman.

Jesus and John Wayne is another I keep recommending for people who want to understand just how US Evangelism has turned quite as batshit. Given Restore seem to be drawing inspiration from that wing of US politics it seems useful

I guess it just never seems to cut both ways: the big Times columnist gets to be a twat on social media safe in the knowledge that they can spin outrage to their advantage

Any books or historians you'd recommend for Lithuanian history?

There's references to similar rituals in the Gallic War. Look I get Ceasar's not the most reliable transcriber of Celtic beliefs but there is evidence
