Just about to finish up a contract for a series of book covers for Allen Steele. I love working with Allen because he gives me lots of excellent reference material and then tell me to have fun with it (and I always do).

You know what makes an artist feel loved? Comments like "I wanted Bob Eggleton for this cover, but the publisher went in a different direction" when you're the "different direction".

WELL, I wanted to do covers for a Hugo award winner and ... what ... oh ... never mind.

I always tell my kids how I had to walk 5 miles to school, uphill, both ways, through shark-infested waters. And that's totally true, of course.

But I have to admit, the courses were easier...

Well said. I used to design games for a living and I always described it as "building cars for gear-heads." I knew every word would end up under a microscope.

A bit of advice from everyone's favorite Saba.

Just remember to make it funny...at least to you!

Saba really loves his Alexa. She's really helpful, especially with a wife who has MS and me, who is really lazy.

But...

The new Alexa+ is a nightmare from hell. The AI voices available range from overly-perky, super-annoying to super-annoying, overly-perky.

Star Trek: TOS fans know Warp Drive was invented by Zefram Cochrane of Alpha Centauri. Why wasn't it invented by terrans? The key to warp drive is dilithium - and there simply ISN'T any in our solar system. Problem solved.

That's how you retcon without breaking established canon.

I'm waiting to hear about approval of a book cover deal. I'm hoping to get it as the author is friend and asked for my artwork specifically.

The publisher is pushing back to use AI.

I'm not a first tier artist, I know that, but this really sucks.
