The old catchphrase "run the government like a business" has never made sense, definitionally. Most government services are things no business would ever do, because not all human needs can be contorted into a profit-generating activity.

That's the problem when an open-source project is heavily sponsored by and thus is dependent on one corporate entity. If Google stopped working on Chromium and moved onto another, proprietary, browser, then that could be the end of Vivaldi, Brave, Opera, etc., unless they continue Chromium.
