thx for the brainstorming maybe my dragon will be real this year haha :3
January 8, 2026 at 5:23 AM
yes lol they told me they had some copyright issues hahahahah so they had to take down the wips and then years later it was dug back up. But they got like this scale skin fabric from animax and theres zero details on how it was made sadly. Lots of stuff is missing from the series now
January 8, 2026 at 5:13 AM
I think the pantyhose idea is a bit better for the wrinkly/skin areas! then tiny foam or rubber scales, then the bigger custom scales. Three different methods to create a gradual custom look and then an overall thin wet coat of rubber/latex/silicone to blend it all together :D
January 8, 2026 at 4:49 AM
idk if you seen this but heres also some interesting stuff. Unfortunately they source the skin scales basically from the company itself so theres not much details on how that was made www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITS...

yeah rubber is definitely more economical than silicone in terms of patching and painting 😅 ive seen a lot of stan winston but not this one i think so thank you!
January 8, 2026 at 4:36 AM
Yeah thats kinda how they make mermaid tails too without needing an 8 foot long mold. They cast the fins and two sides of the tail in flat sheets then bond them together afterwards using powermesh fabric seams and power mesh into the flat sheet cast
January 8, 2026 at 4:25 AM
But using the pantyhose in the armpit areas etc when soaked in the liquid rubber or silicone you can kinda push it around and wrinkle it the way you want it for those areas i think!
January 8, 2026 at 4:24 AM
Yep! Ive looked into those for sure, they use the regular construction silicone thinned with petrol to brush on the skin. Looks pretty decent and easily scalable for those massive suits for dinosaurs. Wont need the panty hose, you need that mostly because the upholstery foam looks so porous
January 8, 2026 at 4:23 AM
(some more brainstorming) if you apply low heat thin strands of hot glue to the base fabric suit, then spray/brush rubber over it and pull off the hot glue strands before its fully set, you can kinda imitate skin wrinkles like that without a mold
January 8, 2026 at 4:14 AM
so id do a similar approach, but instead of tiny silicone scales id do tiny soft urethane foam or rubber scales that can be cast in 3dprinted mold to power-mesh fabric sheets and spliced to glue to the suit, and 3dprinted tpu/eva foam large scales. Then coat over the whole body with creature cast
January 8, 2026 at 3:59 AM
anyway just found this person who did kinda approach i was laying out for my dragonkin (but with more silicone instead of urethane)
They got some details! Spandex base, scales with eva foam (basically) and smaller scales in silicone adhered to the fabric base.

i saw it yeah but i feel like its gonna be even more soft and disintegratable than pt flex 20 and youre gonna have to put foam behind it for sure?
January 8, 2026 at 2:43 AM
Yeah I like spray glue to seal in really porous pieces like upholstery foam and it should bond all those manually placed pieces and scales together really well! I would definitely get some thickener to smooth out the difference in materials i think, the neothix in creature cast is what i use
January 8, 2026 at 12:34 AM
Its like a pricier synthetic latex so im not sure how much that'll benefit over using regular latex. But i had put latex eyelids in my old werewolf mask and it kinda disintegrated over last few years so thats why i invested in the creature cast. I think it'll last longer than latex at least?
