#OnePlaceWednesday + #31DaysOfGraves Day 8: Glass

Stained glass window in the chancel of St Mary’s church at Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy, “erected in memory of Sir Charles and Lady Knightley By a grateful Tenantry” in 1866. With closer views of Sir Charles K & Lady Selina Mary K, née Hervey.
Five images combined, on a black background. In the centre is the a glass window in its entirety. Top left: A closer view of the bottom left pane of the window, depicting Sir Charles Knightley, facing right, his hands closed in prayer. Bottom left: An even closer view of the top part of the same pane, showing the head of Sir Charles. Top right: A closer view of the bottom right pane of the window, depicting Lady Selina Mary Knightley, facing left, her head bowed and hands closed in prayer. Bottom left: An even closer view of the top part of the same pane, showing the head of Lady Selina.

How beautiful! I’ll have to go to the museum when I visit #Totnes. I’ve only visited Totnes briefly, to photograph the war memorial which commemorates a man in my #OneNameStudy, but it’s a lovely place & I’d like to go back. This was the mermaid of #Zennor (various incarnations!) last week

Several members of my family are buried in this grave. The angel towers over the surrounding graves. My grandmother joked that it reminded her of the grave that Del Boy & Rodney had installed for theirmim on Only Fools & Horses 🫣 IYKYK

I have the same feeling… I read a quote once that said that cemeteries are libraries of people; it’s so true! I got my love of nature from my father. Cemeteries themselves can be home to nature - I’ve visited several who observe No Mow May

I have! Old stone bothering, seeing paternal family in Cornwall, then maternal family reunion in Brighton! I must go to Antony when we’re there for longer

A very personal one for #31DaysOfGraves today. My father was a passionate nature lover, and when he died we had birds engraved on his gravestone ♥️

My Waters Upton #OnePlaceStudy began as a very small OPS covering the ‘residents’ of St Michael’s churchyard. Looking over the photos I’ve taken there, I see I missed a good one for Day 1 of #31DaysOfGraves: Flower. Jane Jones (née Evans) and husband Joseph settled at Waters Upton around 1863.
Photo of the upper part of a gravestone with flowers and leaves carved in a circle near the top. The inscription below reads: In affectionate remembrance of Jane, the beloved wife of Joseph Jones, of Waters Upton; who died January 17th 1901, aged 71 years. Not visible in this crop of the photo is the inscription below for husband Joseph, "parish clerk and sexton of this parish for 32 years," who died 21 Mar 1907 aged 76.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵
