Capt Tietjen has a long record of actions that diminish public confidence in SPD. We cannot afford that. I want to give the new chief the benefit of the doubt, but this decision reflects either bad judgment or a lack of due diligence, neither of which will be accepted when I’m Mayor.
SPD Chief Puts Cop Who Called 2020 Protesters "Cockroaches" In Charge of East Precinct
Mike Tietjen, who was promoted over a gay acting commander, was suspended, reassigned, and reprimanded after multiple complaints in 2020, including an incident in which officers taunted a trans woman.

In our first installment of “Harrell’s Big Business Backers,” we present…Jeff Gow, CEO of private investment company Shelter Holdings! He wants Harrell to keep rents increasing to maximize his real estate profits.
A graphic showing a bulleted list outlining that Jeff Gow donated $15,000 to Harrell's Super PAC, Gow sold his real estate company for $500,000,000 in 2014, Gow lives in Bellevue, and that Gow is CEO of private investment company Shelter Holdings

WHO is contributing the mountain of cash to Bruce Harrell’s Super PAC? Billionaires, real estate titans, venture capitalists, and tech executives residing primarily in the tony precincts of Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Medina.

Thrilled to add to this article about Jersey City’s own progressive candidates for mayor and city council — Mussab Ali and Jake Ephros.

There's really a desire for a new kind of leadership and action. And I think that that's true across the country.

"[T]he outcome of the city’s decision was that for nearly a year, Seattle paid for just as many rooms as before yet helped fewer and fewer people off the street with them."

A PAC supporting Bruce Harrell has now raised more than $1 million from wealthy donors, and soon they will use it to attack me so that our city stays unaffordable. With less than a month until election day, I want to make a few things clear. #thisisyourcity

More from David Kroman and The Seattle Times:
Another excerpt: "I think she is hands down the smartest, most strategic and most effective builder of people power in the city," Herbold said. The successful JumpStart Tax, though, cemented Wilson as a force in City Hall. For former Councilmember Mike O'Brien, Wilson's way of moving through the world was instructive to him as someone still forming his political beliefs. He saw himself as progressive, but never related to the tear-it-down politics of his then-colleague Kshama Sawant. How, then, could he both stick to his beliefs while honoring the part of himself that wanted to work well with others? It's just the sort of home one might imagine for a scrappy organizer, but far from Harrell's 7,000-square-foot Seward Park home, more typical of a big-city mayor. The incongruity between its diminutive size and the enormous scope of the job Wilson wants is dizzying. It's a disconnect that now colors much of Wilson's life. Since the primary, people recognize her on the street. Her privacy is mostly gone, particularly in the friendly confines of Capitol Hill. Based on what she heard on the campaign trail, she suspected she would do well in the primary but was surprised at just how well. It's changed her view of the city. "All of these people are now looking at me as someone carrying their hopes and dreams and their vision of what Seattle could be, and their hope that this could be a city that they can live in long term, and their children can live in long term, and it feels like a huge responsibility, you know?" she said. "Because it does feel very likely that I'm going to win this race.

Thank you to David Kroman and The Seattle Times for this great profile!
An image of the Seattle Times article by David Kroman headlined "Katie Wilson's Seattle mayor race: What to know about Harrell's rival" A screenshot excerpt of the article that reads: "As an organizer of people, she views the major's office as the city's nucleus for coalition-building and effectuating change. "I do think that there is the potential from the mayor's office to just change the way City Hall actually works and executes things in a way that will really have transformative impacts," she said. Wilson's decision to drop out of Oxford sent her cascading through a series of low-paying jobs and toward becoming one of Seattle's most prominent organizers, a leading..." A screenshot of the article that reads: "For Wilson, they say, there is no delta between theory and practice. "She has lived her life, from dropping out of Oxford onward, very much trying to live all aspects in alignment," said her high school friend Philip Chaffee. "And it's how I understood the direction she was headed even when we were teenagers." A screenshot of the article that reads: Such was the beginning of the Transit Riders Union. For its first several years, Wilson was focused on transit, pushing for discounted fares for young people and preserving service on King County Metro. "She was hardworking, passionate and very good at working with other people," said Marci Carpenter, who served on the city transit advisory board with Wilson in 2016. Eventually, the organization came to broaden its focus.
