On this day in 1854, in Ripon, Wisconsin, the Republican Party was born in opposition to human slavery. At this writing, that party is fully committed to denying that slavery, lynching, Jim Crow or even casual racial discimination ever actually occurred. Mr. Lincoln could not be reached for comment.
