I had a distressing conversation with an in-law who sent me a photo of a fake AI toy that she was trying to get for the niece and nephew.

She didn’t understand that it wasn’t something I could find online and buy, and she became increasingly upset as I explained why and how AI works.

The quiet thing that the BLM movement revealed is that cops control local governments, and the officials that you vote for only have the power to tax you to pay them.

It’s the “civil society” part of governances that’s becoming optional. Cops run the joint.

The 90s are still very important for that story too. Less so these days, but there was a period when you could argue that there was less a global hip hop movement and a more a global Wu Tang fan club.

Hip hop suffers from the same attrition of venues to play as other genres, but local scenes are always where the best talent is hiding.

Agricultural workers have been demonized, criminalized, and enslaved for as long as we have written records.

The South is able to "keep taxes low" becuase they use prison laborers for jobs that other states hire people to do. In Lousiana, Angola is a factory town attached to a corrupt court system.

They arrest people who can do the work for minor crimes, and then turn them into slaves.
