So you want to try hand-planing boards, but not enough to actually get tools that work because you definitely don't need another hobby. If you're me you buy a $20 Cracker Barrel wall-hanger off Marketplace. And, yep, it doesn't work, cause age and fire damage and stuff.

Just chilling, watching TV, while this little soot sprite sniffs my breath, licks my face, and purrs so loud I can't hear the TV. One month since she fell out of a car's engine compartment and she is pretty sure she owns this house, no matter what the other cats might think.

It's not so much a live-edge bowl as a live-bottom bowl (they make the rocking world go round). Interesting turn. Made a funnel at one point but filled it and made it work. (Black walnut, Yorkshire grit)

Clearing out some space in the Group W Box means finishing up some bowls started over a year ago. Both of these are Bradford Pear, finished with Yorkshire grit and butcher block conditioner. Beautiful wood, horrible tree.

Of all the injuries I expected to risk by working barefoot in the woodshop (yes, yes, I know), stepping on a hornet was not one of them. 12 hours later and the ball of my foot is still throbbing. Tomorrow: chemicals banned by the Geneva convention, and an express delivery to Satan.

This grouchy mister was living in a storm drain until Herself pulled over to see what the fire department was up to.
Yes, I know the rules.
The 20 year old gracefully aged fluffy princess of the house points out those rules apply to humans, not her fluffy butt.

Being a Groundhog, most years I prognosticate on my birthday "6 weeks of winter, as soon as it starts." Because The South, and climate change. This year has been the other extreme - lots of winter - but now it's 75 degrees outside. Meanwhile, Herself knitted me this super warm wool and mohair hat.

Been working on wood for other people for a while. Finally finished up a bowl-for-me that had been very, very naughty for four months (glued back together 3 times, made a funnel, and it's... not a showpiece). And yet... it's not awful. Hickory and butcher block oil. Lathe go brrrt

Friends who cut down a redbud tree last year brought me a few chunks.
Turned out that the rings of a redbud tree aren't connected to the next ring out. Like, no vascular cambium (lateral fiber growth) between them. Which is weird. And probably has arboreal implications.

Indoor snowballs. $8 impulse purchase at Home Goods yesterday.
Getcha a set, whether you have kiddos or not, because omigod that's the best impulse buy since a young Nicoletto Giganti was walking past a rapier for sale and said "sure, why not, might be fun"

When I was visiting Hawke back in Orlando back in July, after she finished reminding me not to be a dumbass, I took a stroll around the cemetery looking for logs and found one that looked to be in good condition. Couldn't tell you the species, but it was promising. 1/

6,000 N of force isn't a *huge* pushback, unless it's delivered at close range on an impact area with a 9mm diameter.
