That’s definitely part of it, but it’s also the darkness and negative space that almost frames the nostalgia with a certain bittersweet futility. The juxtaposition of a cake made with great care, alongside cheaply manufactured plastic cups and cigarette butts. Treats and trash. Ups and downs.
