I appreciate that everyone is doing their year in review stuff, but I'm still recovering from a rough second half of 2025. I may end up posting my 2025 review sometime in June or July lol.

A fire alarm bell is ringing at an apartment across the way and FOUR fire trucks showed up. So I did what anyone would do, I took my cats out on the balcony to watch the lights.

Seems like everything is fine, no smell of smoke or ambulance so whatever it was, it sounds like it wasn't much.

The turkey turned out ridiculously delicious. I spatchcocked it, dry brined with just salt overnight, injected the meat with melted butter, and slathered it in a seasoned butter. It baked up beautifully! Spatchcocking definitely makes the bake go faster. 100% Would do this again.

I found a whole turkey for $5 (13lb) and of course I decided that this is the perfect opportunity to try to bake a whole turkey for the first time. Oh and why not spatchcock it, too. I usually get a whole bone in breast but this was too good a deal to pass up.

Turns out I haven't been a lazy slacker who can't even handle daily responsibilities, I've just had a sinus infection for weeks. Weird how that reframes everything. It's also nearly finals week in grad school. Definitely struggling right now, so I'm going to rest and hope I feel better tomorrow.

I have been offline on vacation and didn't realize it was the anniversary of 9/11. All I think about when I see those Twin Towers burning are the thousands of people who died that day and the hundreds of thousands of people who would later die because of that day. It hurts more every year.

I will pay all the money in my bank accounts right now for someone to cure painful period cramps. While that may not be a lot of money, think of the alternative benefits for the world: way less bitching about period cramps. More productivity at work. Heating pad industry destroyed.

My sister's cat died today unexpectedly. It was devastating for her and our whole family. Our pets are our family. And then my sister went home and ordered food and when it was delivered, she opened her door and found a kitten on her doorstep. The cat distribution system is wild.

Me earlier today: I definitely told that person off, I was 100% right in doing that, I don't care if they are mad! Me now: was I too mean? Is that person mad at me now? Should I apologize? Maybe I shouldn't have been so angry.

People pleasing anxiety fucking sucks.

I started a step challenge with some of my coworkers and even though I feel a lot better after going for a walk tonight and meeting my daily step goal, I'm kicking myself for volunteering to run this challenge because I actually have to try now.

Just got my lease renewal for my apartment and somehow my rent went DOWN by $7/mo. There's a lot of financial uncertainty in the world right now and this was a much needed happy surprise. I was expecting a $200 increase!

Just dropped my oldest cat off for one of the wildest medical procedures I've heard of: radioactive iodine therapy. It is 95%effective at curing hyperthyroidism and I can't wait to see how much better my cat feels once it's done and after she gets out of isolation.

The lady at the post office and I just had a moment bonding over the fact that I still have a book of the scratch and sniff popsicle forever stamps from 2018, and they still smell good!

To my Amazon grocery driver who just delivered 10 boxes my my favorite hyperfixation food, I salute you. I can't seem to find enough of it in grocery stores to satisfy my cravings, and you've set me up for at least the next week.

I don't think I've seen a fire blow up as fast as the Palisades Fire in LA. The fire started today and is already at 3k acres, most fires don't even get that big at all. Climate change really is wild. I'm hoping that firefighters can get this under control soon and no one gets hurt too badly.

I usually don't read book tok books because they don't appeal to me, but Fourth Wing had a lot of fantasy and romance and an underdog so I tried it. The first book was pretty good, but then the second book truly lost me. Why do authors feel the need to force the worst possible outcome on readers?

My thoughts tonight are with federal employees who are looking at their emergency funds and gauging how long they will last in a shutdown. I hope that a shutdown can be averted or at least be very short.

I have the worst ability to finish a knitting or crochet project, so I was hesitant to start a knit sweater, but I started anyways. It has been really rewarding! I set a plan for how far I wanted to knit tonight and once I got there, I realized I was having a lot of fun so I kept going!

Teleworking from home with cats is harder than being in the office. My cat is literally just sitting there staring off into space and I'm so distracted from work because I can't get over how cute she is when she tucks her little paw in towards her chest.
