If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that. But I think you already know that drive-by online dooming isn't a strategy. It's selfish and adolescent. It's a contagion that only spreads the worst of you, not the best.

Second, and probably most importantly, it's tactically wrong. "No point discussing political opposition to fascism, there won't be elections anyway" cedes victory to your enemies. It's defeatism and nihilism.

"Superintelligence" 🙄 claims aside, I think he's right. LLM boosters always start dissembling when you point out that the tech has two critical problems—it scales poorly and routinely generates errors—and nobody has a clue how to fix either. Both problems appear inherent to the tech itself.

It's absolutely critical to remember that the reason he's like this is some underpaid game designer at blizzard made him so butthurt that he lost the ability to be normal, permanently.

the thing about garry's mod is that it wasn't a piece of software it was a point in history and actually i'd hazard it's absolutely impossible to emulate that point in history. i'd also say that there's nobody out there who's documented how it felt to navigate that world

it is absolutely unacceptable that the PRIMARY FUNCTION of a voice-activated assistant (setting timers and alarms via voice command) is an unreliable feature on android. I AM USING YOUR FLAGSHIP DEVICE, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST RING A BELL 5 MINUTES FROM NOW WITHOUT ME TRIPLE-CHECKING?

I do this kind of faux-profound thing when I'm done with a game of OpenTTD. I don't save it, I don't back it up. I just invoke the newgame command on the server and move on. I don't need to rest on the things I did in the game over the last few months, I can start over and do better.
