In my last #Woking News and Mail - column before Christmas - as well as wishing everyone a Merry Christmas - I’ve written about the lack of festive cheer in the recent budget and my hope that McLaren will celebrate their F1 wins in our town centre.

Chancellor gave Woking little to cheer
It’s hard to believe 2025 is drawing to a close and that this is my final column of the year.

I have serious concerns about the Government's court reform proposals - including scrapping jury trials.

I challenged the Justice Secretary to publish the full impact assessment and let the Justice Committee fully scrutinise these proposals before a Bill is introduced.

Week-in, week-out, up and down the country, Liberal Democrats are winning in real elections.

We've gained seats from Reform UK, the Conservatives, Labour and the SNP. And we've won in Keir Starmer's and Mel Stride's backyards.

Liberal Democrats are the only party taking the fight to Reform UK.

The world-leading British film industry is facing an existential threat from Trump's Film Tariffs.

The government must keep all options on the table to protect British jobs and national treasures like Paddington and Bond, including working with allies to draw up retaliatory tariffs.

There are no elections in #Woking today. It should have been your opportunity to make your voice heard at the ballot box, but the Conservatives cancelled them and are recklessly rushing ahead with local govt changes which we oppose.
Today is 1st May 2025. Today should have been polling day in the Surrey County Council elections.
Today should have been your opportunity to make your voice heard at the ballot box, about everything from highways to Children’s Services and SEN. That voice has been silenced by the Conservatives who...

Trump’s trade war threatens businesses and living standards. McLaren is the largest employer in #Woking and 42% of their cars are sold in the US - Trump’s 25% tariff on cars could really hurt us locally. That’s why I’m backing British and local businesses.

It is the common sense approach for the Government to extend a scheme we already have in place with Australia and Japan, to our neighbours and friends in Europe.

Brits overwhelmingly back a youth mobility scheme, a win-win for the UK and Europe. Yet the Government is sticking its head in the sand, refusing to listen.

Not only would the scheme young people more opportunities, it could also give Britain a much needed economic boost.

Rachel Reeves has just one month to save health and social care from this jobs tax bombshell.

With social care is on its knees, wait times for GPs are still through the roof, and dental deserts all too common, she must scrap this tax for health and social care before it's too late.
