It was fun talking about this project at a conference - I think for the first time - and a pleasure to give the very last talk at #MultiBac2025. I learned so much about multicellular bacterial systems at this meeting and take home a number of ideas and concepts.

Last talk at #MultiBac2025 by Wolfram Möbius - The hunt for the microscopic origin of macroscopic chirality in E. coli colonies

About 10 year collaboration with K.C. Huang

Expert's Dilemma: the more specialized you become, the less open you are to creative solutions from other fields. But the more you explore other fields, the more you risk losing credibility in your home field.
Interdisciplinary work is still not really embraced by academia.

One more week to apply for the @lsiexeter.bsky.social
PhD programme! It is a great place to do science and learn more science. Consider joining us if you are looking for PhD positions!

20 more days to apply for the @lsiexeter.bsky.social PhD programme. Check out the list of projects following the link below. I might be biased, but one of the most exciting is on coevolution in turbulent environments. Drop me a message if you are interested!

Would you like to see @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social add a share to blue sky button?! I know I would! Share this post to let @richardsever.bsky.social @erictopol.bsky.social and others at bioarxiv know!

Different type of conference for me today. It was a pleasure contributing to a session at EAUC conference on reducing aviation emissions, talked about @meehubs.bsky.social and new ways of conferencing. Encouraging to hear what is happening in the sector.

Elated that MEEHubs2024 was a huge success! I hope that others keep this experiment in mind when planning future conferences. A pleasure to work closely with
@prokaryota.bsky.social @wolframmoebius.bsky.social and @saramitri.bsky.social, but thanks to all hub organizers, sponsors and volunteers!

Thanks, Ákos. I struggled with the search function.

On my way home from #MEEhubs2024. Feeling exhausted, proud, and privileged to haved worked with amazing colleagues, amongst many most closely with Sara Mitri, @prokaryota.bsky.social and @erikbakkeren.bsky.social. Hopefully, the next @meehubs.bsky.social can have (even) more hubs across the globe!
wolframmoebius.bsky.social
I love seeing how people adapt to the hub format of @meehubs.bsky.social. Questions across hubs and with online participants all the time. Now a talk in Lausanne advertising a related poster in San Diego!
wolframmoebius.bsky.social
Hosted a session on sustainability at @MEEhubs tonight. Not surprising, but still good to see how people from near and far discuss the same topics we do at LSI Exeter, Exeter Physics and @uniofexeter.bsky.social. Local change is not a drop in the ocean!
meehubs.bsky.social
First out of five #MEEhubs2024 cross-hub activities was on sustainability. Colleagues from near and far shared concerns, reported failures and celebrated successes. Loads of overlap between reported failures and successes means it is worth to keep trying!

Updated advert! PhD project on the role of fluid flow and luck in the evolution of microbial interactions in the vast ocean - plenty of opportunity for the PhD student to shape this interdisciplinary project. Deadlines 8th Jan and 19th Feb 2024, see www.moebiuslabexeter.uk/join-us
Illustrated version of:

The role of fluid flow and luck in the evolution of microbial interactions in the vast ocean

How can interactions in the ocean evolve if the descendants of the interaction partners will be swept far away by fluid flow?

How often do descendants of microbes encounter each other in the ocean so they get to interact and co-evolve?

How to model evolution in the ocean without needing to model all the flow?

How to test some of these ideas in the lab?

Interested? Join us in the Living Systems Institute at the
University of Exeter!

Two application opportunities with deadlines 8th January 2024 and 19th February 2024.

More information: https://www.moebiuslabexeter.uk/join-us

Questions? Reach out to: Wolfram Moebius (w.moebius@exeter.ac.uk), Adam Monier (a.monier@exeter.ac.uk), Daniel Kattnig (d.r.kattnig@exeter.ac.uk)
